 Founded in 1909, our first insurance policy – valued at $5,000 – was sold a year later. Throughout the years, NGL grew by being active in the merger and acquisition arena, increasing our size significantly through these transactions. Today, NGL is a vibrant organization with a clear direction. We offer products in 49 states and the District of Columbia with a focus on Preneed, Individual Life and Annuities, as well as group markets, including specialty products. 

Athene was co-founded by James Belardi, former President of SunAmerica Life Insurance Company and now CEO of Athene Holding Ltd., Chip Gillis, former head of Bear Stearns’ Insurance Solutions Group and former CEO of Athene Life Re Ltd., and Apollo Global Management.

Athene focuses on retirement savings solutions and has deep expertise in the long-term management of retirement benefits. Our management team leverages 165+ years of combined experience to create opportunities in today’s evolving retirement marketplace for the growing number of individuals nearing retirement.  

 Aetna Insurance Company organized an annuity fund to sell life insurance in 1850. In 1853, the Annuity department separates from Aetna Insurance and is incorporated as Aetna Life Insurance Company. The company’s first president is Eliphalet A Bulkeley.
